What are different paint sheens for interior?
The most common are:
Flat: usually used for ceilings
Matte/satin: commonly used for walls
Semi-gloss: widely used for doors and trim
What are the advantages/disadvantages of flat and lower sheen paints?
Lower sheens tend to catch more dust and dirt, and low-quality paint can be hard to clean. The advantages of lower sheen are mainly to hide imperfections on drywall.
What are the advantages/disadvantages of higher sheen paints?
Easy to clean, more UV protection. The downside would be that it reflects light, which is not very desired for interior (walls or ceilings).
When do I pay you?
We request a 20% deposit to schedule your job and start work. The remaining balance is required upon completion.
What type of payments do you accept?
Cash, checks, money order, Venmo, Zelle and major credit cards.
How long does exterior painting last?
Quality exterior painting typically lasts 7-10 years in Colorado's climate. Proper surface preparation and premium paints extend durability against UV exposure and temperature swings. What's included in interior painting prep?
Interior prep includes surface cleaning, hole filling, sanding rough areas, and masking furniture. Thorough preparation ensures smooth coverage and professional results that last. Can you paint kitchen cabinets?
Yes, cabinet painting transforms kitchens cost-effectively. The process involves removing hardware, thorough cleaning, sanding, priming, and applying durable finish coats for smooth results. When's the best time for exterior painting?
Late spring through early fall offers ideal conditions. Temperatures between 50-80°F with low humidity and minimal precipitation ensure proper paint adhesion and curing. What affects residential painting costs?
Costs depend on square footage, surface condition, paint quality, prep work needed, and accessibility. Higher surfaces and detailed trim require more time and materials.Do you paint accent walls?
Accent walls add visual interest and depth to rooms. We help select colors that complement existing décor and use precise techniques for clean, professional edges. How do you protect furniture during painting?
All furniture and belongings are covered with plastic sheeting and drop cloths. We remove or relocate items when possible and mask fixtures to prevent paint splatter. What's involved in deck staining?
Deck staining includes pressure washing, allowing proper drying time, sanding rough spots, and applying weather-resistant stain that penetrates and protects wood fibers from moisture. Can you paint during winter months?
Interior painting works year-round with proper ventilation. Exterior painting requires temperatures above 50°F during application and curing, limiting winter outdoor projects in Colorado. Why choose professional over DIY painting?
Professional painters provide proper surface preparation, quality materials, specialized tools, and warranty coverage. This ensures longer-lasting results and saves time compared to DIY attempts. How is exterior surface prep different from interior?
Exterior prep is more intensive — it includes pressure washing, scraping loose paint, caulking gaps around trim and windows, and spot-priming bare wood. Colorado's freeze-thaw cycles create more substrate movement, so thorough prep is essential before any paint is applied. How many coats does exterior painting require?
Most exterior projects need two finish coats for full coverage and protection. Bare wood or heavily faded surfaces may also need a primer coat first. Applying adequate coats ensures even color and a durable film that resists Colorado's UV exposure and temperature swings.Does Colorado's climate shorten exterior paint life?
Yes. High altitude means stronger UV radiation, which fades and chalks paint faster than lower elevations. Extreme temperature swings between seasons also cause siding to expand and contract, stressing the paint film — making premium paint and proper prep especially important in Colorado. Why is pressure washing needed before exterior painting?
Pressure washing removes dirt, mildew, oxidation, and chalking — all of which prevent new paint from bonding properly. Painting over a contaminated surface causes premature peeling. The surface must be fully dry before any paint or primer is applied. Can you paint over peeling exterior paint?
No — peeling paint must be scraped and sanded down to a stable surface first. Painting over peeling areas traps moisture and causes the new coat to fail quickly. Proper removal and spot-priming of those areas are critical steps before repainting. What sheen works best for exterior siding?
Satin and low-luster finishes are most popular for exterior siding — they repel moisture and are easy to clean while minimizing glare. Semi-gloss is typically reserved for doors and trim, where durability and a crisp appearance matter most.Is painting stucco different from painting wood siding?
Yes. Stucco is porous and absorbs more paint, often requiring a masonry primer and thicker application. Wood siding needs more attention to grain prep and caulking. Each material has specific primer and paint requirements to ensure proper adhesion and longevity. How do I know my exterior paint needs refreshing?
Look for chalking (a powdery residue when you rub the surface), fading, cracking, or peeling — especially on south- and west-facing walls that get the most sun. If caulk around windows and trim is cracking, that's another sign moisture may already be getting in.Do exterior surfaces always need primer before painting?
Not always, but bare wood, repaired spots, and stucco almost always do. Primer improves adhesion, blocks stains, and seals porous surfaces so the finish coat covers evenly. Skipping primer on problem areas is one of the most common causes of early paint failure.Should exterior trim be painted the same time as siding?
Yes — painting trim and siding together ensures color consistency and a uniform sheen level. Trim is typically done in a contrasting or complementary color with a higher sheen for definition. Doing both at once also avoids mismatched weathering between surfaces painted years apart.
